Peter Vermilyea will read from his latest book,Wicked Litchfield County, which as its title promises, unveils the unsavory side of the county. Thieves, rumrunners and rapscallions of all colors held sway in the early part of its history. Women were accused of witchcraft for not bearing enough children, counterfeiting was rife, speakeasies took hold and Litchfield County gave birth to the nation’s first mass murderer.
Peter Vermilyea teaches history at Housatonic Valley Regional High School and Western Connecticut State University. A graduate of Gettysburg College, he is also the author ofHidden History of Litchfield County (The History Press, 2014) and the recipient of the 2015 CultureMax Award.
