An Important Announcement!
Dear Cornwall Community,
It is with great pleasure that the Board of Trustees of the Cornwall Library announces the hiring of a new Executive Director, Cara R. Johnson, PhD, of Bantam. Cara will take the helm of our organization at the end of September.
The Board began a search in the spring to replace Margaret Haske when she informed us that she wished to step back from the leadership role into that of
Circulation Director. A search committee composed of five board members oversaw an in-depth process that included the vetting of over sixty applications, and multiple interviews with more than a dozen talented and well-qualified candidates, many from the Northwest Corner.
Cara holds BA, MA and PhD degrees from the University of Connecticut, with her doctorate concentration in Archaeology, Human Evolution and Sedimentology. Highlights of Cara's professional career include Head of School of Litchfield Montessori School and most recently Education Lead for Ark Education Initiative, a global education foundation. She brings to the position tremendous experience in education, non-profit development and administration, and innovative programming, as well a deep love for the outdoors. Cara also served as a trustee of the Connecticut Board of Independent Schools and as a board member of the Rotary Club of Thomaston and the Junior Women's Club of Litchfield Hills; she's been a wilderness guide and mentor; and she continues to serve as a research scientist in the University of Connecticut's Department of Anthropology.
Please join me and the Board of Trustees in welcoming Cara to her new position and to the Cornwall community.
Alison Schweizer
President, Board of Trustees
