Garden 2 – A Garden Full of Surprises
A gristmill, built in 1740, was converted into a house in 1965 and the owners, working over many years, made a steep rocky hillside, with a 60-foot waterfall, into a series of very different gardens. On the upper level, these consist of an early spring wildflower garden above the house, next to the waterfall, shrubbery around the millpond, traditional borders, and a stone-edged cutting garden. The steep terraced hillside and an orchard descend to a lower pond and water garden. It is a landscape with magnificent views and lots of surprises.
