Discovering Cornwall’s Apple Heritage: Past, Present & Future A talk by Peter Del Tredici and Ian & Gordon Ridgway
Come hear about our efforts to identify Cornwall‘s historic apples and to preserve these old heirloom trees by first grafting and then growing them. We will also discuss Cornwall’s amazing history with apple cider going back to the early 1800s and our efforts to bring this industry back to Cornwall. As a special bonus and a fundraiser for the Cornwall Library, we will have 27 “ready to plant” two-year-old trees propagated from the only known specimen of a unique Cornwall variety, ‘Burnham Sweet’, for sale after the talk. This apple tree was first described in 1869, but then disappeared from cultivation until we identified a specimen of it five years ago on Cream Hill Road. This is a unique chance to cultivate a piece of Cornwall history in your garden!
Registration is required. You must be present to purchase a tree.
