Amelia Starr & Matthew Ziehl – The Rojo House Garden
When we bought our property on Milton Road it was not garden ready. We spent three years removing invasives, unstringing barbed wire fences, and unearthing more than 100 horseshoes, not to mention miscellaneous pieces of derelict farm equipment, before we could plant anything. But once we got started, we found that the property easily divided itself into several garden “rooms”: a formal area laid along the foundations of Milton’s 19th century school house, an orchard at the sunny top of the property, and a water garden below separated by a rocky outcrop. These individual “rooms” allow for different design approaches in each area and plenty of opportunities to create visual interest in every season of the year. Like all gardens, ours is a work in progress. That is what makes gardening such a compelling and lifelong hobby.
