Garden 4 – Along the Housatonic.
When the owners bought this property in 2008, they made a strategic decision to let the more than 300 feet of riverfront bordering their garden do most of the “landscape” talking. Don’t expect any exotic plantings in this garden. Instead, you will find an array of sturdy workhorse New England plants that provide color from the first crocus in April to the last aster blooms in November. There are peonies, phlox, giant Echinops and Joe-Pye weed as well as the semi-wild oenothera, bishop’s weed, and several species of ferns. The recent addition of a gazebo, designed and built by one of their brothers, provides the perfect spot to sit, relax, and take in the drama of the Housatonic River.
