Garden Three – A dramatic border enhanced by glorious views.
When the owners of this garden purchased their house in the winter of 2013, they were delighted by its sweeping western views but had no idea they were also the beneficiaries of some existing elaborate perennial plantings. These included a fern-lined driveway, swaths of vinca and sweet William, iris, nepeta, Russian sage, and several varieties of lilies and peonies. A pool area was surrounded with mature rhododendrons, astilbe, sedum and ajuga. In 2017, the decision was made to add viburnum to the driveway and to transplant many of the existing perennials to create a dramatic 200-foot bed along a stone wall on the northwest side of the property, now further extended with the addition of low maintenance, deer-resistant plants including bergamot and alliums.
