Studio Talk: Carl D’Alvia

The Cornwall Library is excited to announce that on July 25, from 5 to 6pm, celebrated artist Carl D’Alvia will welcome a small group of enthusiasts registered through the library to his studio to hear him explain his approach to creating sculpture. He will be in conversation with Dina Shaulov-Wright. A reception will follow the talk.

This unique event will dilate on D’Alvia’s process of working from drawings to finished sculpture. It is a rare opportunity to look inside a working artist’s studio.

D’Alvia is best known for bronze, marble, and post-pop resin sculptures that range from the abstract and geometric to the figurative and anthropomorphic. His work often explores dichotomies such as minimal/ornate, hard/soft, animate/inanimate, and comic/tragic.

He is based in Cornwall, CT. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, he is a Rome Prize winner and represented by Hesse Flatow Gallery in Manhattan where, amongst other places, he has had numerous shows. He recently exhibited five of his post-pop sculptures in various locations in Manhattan in a show called Broadway Hubbub. Currently he has three sculptures on display at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield, CT, and a show of large outdoor works called (mono)LITHS at the Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, VT.

Dina Wright has decades of experience in the art world, working with galleries, non-profits, artists, and private collections. She has held roles in exhibition planning, sales, and operations at leading galleries including David Zwirner and Skarstedt Gallery, and has curated two very successful shows at the Hughes Library in West Cornwall.
